#1. The Art of Personal Safety is a self-cultivation process that re-conditions the mental, emotional, and physical well-being from the inside out. The overall goal is to align the mental, emotional, and physical aspects in order to achieve our “personal” self-control. Through “personal” self-control we begin to bring our “Life” back into focus. This “personal” self-control, is control over ourselves, never other people.

Most of our time is spent in the external world while desperately seeking balance, peace, and happiness. The external world cannot be controlled. At the very minimum, we can influence or persuade. Of all the things we seek, we cannot find them in the external world.

The Art of Personal Safety is a program for participants who are ready (mentally & emotionally) to move forward from the Art of the 8 Limbs (physical fitness training) into something with a deeper meaning to the martial arts training and philosophy. The Art of Personal Safety will take the participants on an inward journey where pain, chaos, and confusion await (sounds enticing…right?). It is a self-cultivation journey that starts from within the internal world.

Mental, emotional, and physical have been given free rein for so long that they will cause some massive battles when we try to align (guide) them. We have been living amongst them most of our lives so they will simply, not hand over the “power” back to us so willingly. They will surely not give it up without a fight. But, through all the pain, chaos, and confusion lie the balance, peace, and happiness we seek. What we want and need were never external, it has always been internal. The question is,

“Are WE worth fighting for?”

This inward journey is where we will find our “personal” self-control (control over ourselves, never other people). We may be able to influence or persuade, but that’s about it. Without our “personal” self-control our mental, emotional, and physical will continue to be misaligned, misguided, and/or scattered. These scattered thoughts can cause depressions when we wander into the past and may cause anxieties if we wander into our future, which takes us away from the life that is happening in the “present” moment. We have to be in the “present” to enjoy the moment. We have to allow ourselves to live in the here and now.

#2. The Art of the 8 Limbs is a physical fitness & conditioning program for younger participants who are interested in Southeast Asia’s combative arts. The program is not about training the participants on how to fight in a competition but rather used as a tool to achieve the core values of honor, integrity, respect, and trust with the overall goal of physical health and well-being. A8L participants will be learning the basic fundamentals of the art in a controlled environment. These basic fundamentals will include punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and clinching. As participants advance, they will progress into striking with their 8 limbs, bag boxing, shadow boxing & movements, bag clinching, pad workouts, partner workout techniques, and more.

One of the main reasons is to get our younger generations to be more active mentally and physically rather than allowing themselves to get sucked into the world-wide-web of “social media & gaming.” And that it’s okay to come out and be physically active in their lives once in a while. “Everything with moderation will create balance.” So, it is with hopeful expectations that they will allow us to guide them to see their wonderful world that is “real.” A world that cannot be manipulated within a screen, and that life outside the Web can be fun and exciting if they choose to physically and actively participate in it.

The Art of the 8 Limbs Physical Fitness Training will distill discipline, commitment, perseverance, and patience. It is hardcore, intense, effective, and is a very fun roadmap in developing physical fitness to self-defense. A8L is a total body fitness & conditioning utilizing the unarmed martial art system that has been considered one of the most effective stand-up fighting systems in the world as the training platform.

The Art of the 8 Limbs is a stepping stone into the Art of Personal Safety, which is for participants who (when ready), want to journey deeper into the arts with the hopes of achieving the overall goal of “personal” self-control through mental, emotional, and physical awareness training.
